Michael Killian, Texas A&M University Class of '76 and '78, may be retired from public school administration, but students soon won't forget him. Killian, who earned both his master's and doctorate from the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development, will have a new Lewisville ISD middle school named in his honor.

"I am happy to report that a number of the teachers and coaches at the new school are Aggies also," Killian said.

The district consists of five high schools, one ninth-grade center, 14 middle schools, 37 elementary schools, and one early childhood center and has approximately 48,000 students, 5,600 teachers, and 190 administrators.

The Michael G. Killian Middle School will open its doors in August, just in time for the upcoming school year.

"Having this school named after me was such an unexpected honor," Killian said. "To me, it means that all of the wonderful work by all of the great administrators and teachers in Lewisville ISD is being recognized."

Killian retired after 24 years from the Lewisville Independent School District in June 2006, where he had served as deputy superintendent for seven of those years. His commitment to ensuring the educational development of all children has been evident in his decision-making and innovative programs during the 36 years he has served the field of education.

"Hopefully, I have encouraged others to follow my quest for educational excellence," Killian said. "Our challenge is to not just impart knowledge, but to build in a love for learning, a respect for the past, and a commitment to making a better future."
