Bob Griggs Receives "Golden Deeds" Award

State Rep. Bob Griggs was presented the "Golden Deeds for Education Award" today at a luncheon closing Texas A&M University's 23rd Annual Administrative Leadership Institute (ALI). The award is considered the highest recognition for distinguished service to education in the state of Texas.

"We presented the Golden Deeds Award to Rep. Bob Griggs for his long service to children and courage in doing the right thing for children and public education in Texas," said John Hoyle, director of the Administrative Leadership Institute. "Griggs' outstanding leadership in the Texas State Legislature will hopefully persuade more leaders to step up to the plate as legislators and fight the good fight for our children."

Organizers say the purpose of the institute is to discuss the power of ethical leadership in the daily lives of school leaders and policy-makers.

As the institute concluded, Hoyle said he hopes ALI will help promote the importance of ethical leadership for Texas schools and children. He noted that the recent announcement that President George Bush is requiring White House staff members to take such ethics training makes the conference all the more timely.

"The institute is designed to help us all strengthen our resolve to do the right things in the right ways," Hoyle added. "If we do, our children and youth will remember the spiritual good in leadership."

The Administrative Leadership Institute is sponsored by Texas A&M's Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development, Texas Association of School Administrators and Dell Computer Corporation.
