Two former adult education doctoral students, Joellen Coryell and Robin Wright, were recently hired on as tenure-track faculty at the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA). Although the search was for a single position, the search committee was impressed by Coryell and Wright and requested that they both be hired.
"It actually feels really special and very supportive that they hired us both," Coryell said. "Having a partner for advising, course design/redesign and future collaborative research projects provides a great foundation from which to build."
"The decision to hire us both is a compliment to the adult education program at Texas A&M University," Wright added.
Both Coryell and Wright are assistant professors of a new college teaching, adult learning and human resource development program in the College of Education and Human Development at UTSA. As co-directors, they will work closely to grow their master's programs, build a doctoral program and strive to become a top tier research institution.
"I love the fact that Robin and I share an educational history, and yet our research interests are diverse enough that we can compliment each other's work as we build our program and our collective contribution to the academy," Coryell said.
Wright agreed. "Our diverse research interests enable us, as the only adult learning and teaching faculty at the moment, to develop a comprehensive program. We both feel a real drive to make a positive difference, and in San Antonio, I believe we really can."
