COLLEGE OF EDUCATION & HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Texas A&M University

Educational Human Resource Development

Educational Human Resource Development (HRD), is the process of improving learning and performance in individual, group, and organizational contexts through domains of expertise such as lifelong learning, career development, training and development, and organizational development.

Depending on your specific interests, earning a degree in educational human resource development will provide you, as a student, with a variety of courses and academic experiences beyond foundational, specializations, and research core requirements.  This major works to improve learning opportunities for adults as faculty positions in colleges and universities, as well as careers in professional organizations, community organizations, and continuing education programs.

The educational human resource development major offers two specializations:

  • Adult Education - M.S. or Ph.D. degrees providing individuals opportunities to focus on adult education across many contexts, including health care institutions and colleges and universities.
  • Human Resource Development - offering M.S. or Ph.D. degrees which will provide individuals with opportunities for international travel, professional presentations, and writing for publication and research, while preparing for professions in public, private or non-profit settings.

Visit the specific specialization, Adult Education or Human Resource Development for more information. The Department also gives students and/or individuals an opportunity to obtain a certificate in College Teaching or Training and Development.

The certificate in College Teaching is designed to augment the instructional preparation for the future faculty, and the required coursework for the certificate fits easily into any graduate degree. For more information about the Certificate, click here or contact the coordinator, Dr. Christine Stanley at cstanley@tamu.edu.

The program for the certificate in Training and Development is an intensive hands-on, experience-based program for Training and Development practitioners who are already experienced but desire to polish their skills. The program is designed to include the 35 competencies identified by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) that professionals in Human Resource Development possess. For more information about the certificate, please contact the coordinator, Dr. Larry M. Dooley, l-dooley@tamu.edu or refer to the Web site.
