Egan Elected to International Academy Board3/2/06 By Jenna Smith Toby Egan, assistant professor of human resource development (HRD), was elected to the Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) Board of Directors at the 2006 International Research Conference in Columbus, Ohio. "I feel especially honored to be an AHRD Board member because I was elected by our national and international HRD community," Egan said. "By participating in my elected role on the board, I have an opportunity to contribute to Texas A&M goals, to make a difference for the field and to strengthen not only Texas A&M but HRD overall." Having been a member of the AHRD for most of it's 13-year existence, Egan has volunteered as a three-time editor/co-editor of the AHRD Conference Proceedings, an annual publication with over 250 refereed papers and 1400 pages, and worked as a course manager to expand the academy-sponsored research course to include over a dozen participating universities and over 50 students annually. "As Texas A&M, The College of Education and Human Development, our educational administration and human resource development department, and the Human Resource Development program continue to strive toward excellence and enhanced national and international reputation, faculty are being asked to contribute in ways that have broader impact," Egan said. "Since our organization is relatively new, I have a keen appreciation for what many have done as founders and 'second wave' leaders." The AHRD is the premier human resource development research organization globally, with their vision being to Lead Human Resource Development in Research. Unlike other professional organizations, the academy is a global organization, with conferences being held in the U.S., Europe and Asia each year. The Texas A&M Human Resource Development program has been profoundly impacted by the academy. The program now ranks in the Top 5 nationally. Each year, Texas A&M brings a competitive number of graduate students to the conference to participate in the premier research course, join in professional development activities, formulate and extend research agendas, link scholarship and practice, present research, and build relationships within the HRD community. "My service as a board member is not only a chance for Texas A&M to be more visible, but provides us with the opportunity to shape and support the agenda for the HRD profession as we enact the academy's mission," Egan said. "As our program continues to grow, we will develop greater interest by high quality student applicants to our undergraduate and graduate programs, and increase interest from candidates for faculty and professional positions at Texas A&M." At an individual level, the academy has honored additional Texas A&M HRD faculty, including Susan Lynham for her research, Jamie Callahan as an early career scholar, Larry Dooley for his leadership and doctoral student Manda Rosser, now assistant professor in the agricultural education department, for her outstanding dissertation. |
