Gundy Receives AFS Distinguished Achievement Award9/3/07 By Jenna Kujawski Ann Gundy, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development, was awarded the 2007 Association of Former Students College-Level Distinguished Achievement Award. "My mission is to surround our students with outstanding educational opportunities, to instill in them the love and the skill for life-long learning, and to help them stretch and grow personally, academically and professionally," Gundy said. The interdisciplinary undergraduate program that Gundy chairs is a Bridges to Success Program that allows both traditional and nontraditional students the opportunity to select minor fields of study in business administration while pursuing degrees in human resource development (HRD), technology management (TCM) or sport management. Both degree options prepare students to enter the private or public sector in education, business, government, health care or industry and include an internship experience where students obtain direct experience in a real work environment. In addition, many students in the program can still elect to pursue alternative teacher certification upon graduation. "One of my greatest thrills is to witness many of our students as they graduate, obtain stable employment, and then take a leadership roll in establishing an internship position for students coming through the program behind them," Gundy said. "The award is not about me-it is about all the instructors and administration that believe in the program, are willing to devote their time and talent to teaching, are able to think outside the box and support innovative approaches, and have been trusted to build a program that fits the needs of our students and helps them reach their goals." |
