Reyna Receives Distinguished Graduate Student Award11/22/05 By Jenna Smith Sylvia Ramirez Reyna, doctoral student in educational administration, received the Paul R. Hensarling Distinguished Graduate Student Award at a luncheon closing the 23rd Annual Administrative Leadership Institute (ALI). "I am proud to have followed in the steps of my mother as a public educator," Ramirez Reyna said. "I want to do my part in leaving a lasting legacy in the field of education." David Erlandson, professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development, presented Ramirez Reyna with the award. "Sylvia has demonstrated remarkable experience and expertise in public education," Erlandson said. "She has gained the confidence of her colleagues and earned their respect." The award is given in memory of Dr. Paul Hensarling, former Texas school superintendent, who was also head of the Department of Educational Psychology and professor emeritus of the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development. He developed proposals leading to the creation of the College of Education and Human Development and its doctoral programs and attracted many outstanding faculty to the college. "I have been influenced by so many outstanding faculty here," Ramirez Reyna said. "By working together, Texas will have the best educated children in the country."
