Sandlin Receives International Research Travel Assistance Grant For Proposa

2/19/07

By Lauren Rouse

Jennifer Sandlin, assistant professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development, recently received the fall International Research Travel Assistance Grant (IRTAG) for the awarding of her proposal from the International Programs Office and the Office of the Vice President for Research.

"I am very pleased and honored to have received this funding from IRTAG," Sandlin said. "I will be conducting a qualitative research project in which I am seeking to understand issues surrounding environmental and Mayan cultural heritage education and public pedagogy."

Sandlin will be using the grant money to support her research efforts for several trips during the spring and summer of 2007 to the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico.

"During the last two decades, there have been destructive changes occurring to the environment and cultural heritage resources in the Yucatán peninsula because of growing populations, increasing use of agricultural land for cattle grazing and rising tourism," Sandlin said. "I will also be examining some of the problems associated with cultural heritage education in the region."
