TCALL Releases Final Report on Disaster Recovery Project

10/15/09

The Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy & Learning (TCALL) in the College of Education and Human Development released the final report for the Disaster Recovery Grants Project.

Funded by the Barbara Bush Texas Fund for Family Literacy, the Disaster Recovery Grants were one-time awards to help Texas literacy programs affected by a series of extraordinary natural disasters in 2008.

These grants covered specific costs related to or caused by the disasters, such as replacement of lost furnishings, equipment or instructional materials not covered by insurance, and out-of-pocket expenses to repair buildings.

They also covered rental of temporary classroom space, outreach and recruitment expenditures to rebuild program enrollment, and temporary additional personnel costs.

Nine programs were funded through a competitive application process. Each of the programs received between $8,300 and $20,000 according to their specific budget requests.

All programs were successful in accomplishing their objectives.
