The Principal Center Set To Assist Aspiring Principals11/8/05 By Jenna Smith Educators aspiring to be school principals - and educators already serving in that capacity -- will have the opportunity to attend the Principals and Aspiring Principals Academy hosted by The Principal Center at Texas A&M University Nov. 17-18. The event will be held at the College Station Hilton Hotel and Conference Center as a part of the 23rd Annual Administrative Leadership Institute (ALI). Luana Zellner, director of the center, said the academy will focus on issues an aspiring principal needs to know. "The main purpose of this year's academy is to address the issues new principals and assistant principals face when they walk in the door," Zellner said. "The academy is also a way for new administrators to link with others who are in similar positions." The two-day event will host a panel of principals, superintendents, professors and professionals that will tackle a variety of issues including administering elementary, middle, and high schools; service learning; charter schools; brain-based learning; special education; and international baccalaureate. A Dell scholarship also is available to attend the academy and ALI. The scholarship is available through The Principals' Center. "We hope that both principals and aspiring principals take as much from this academy as we have put into it," Zellner said. "It has long been the mission of The Principals' Center to support the principal from certification through retirement."
