Vincente Lechuga Selected As MALRC Fellow11/15/06

Four College of Education and Human Development faculty members - Mauricio Ferreira, Vicente Lechuga, Blanca Quiroz and Quentin Dixon - have received recognition as Mexican American and U.S. Latino Research Center (MALRC) Fellows as well as receiving grants.
"One of the great things about MALRC is that the center supports faculty interested in a wide range of research projects that can add to knowledge and positively benefit the Latino community," said Ferreira, assistant professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology.
Ferreira received the $5,000 Planning Grant for his grant titled "Self-congruity versus Functional Congruity: Predictors of Participation Choice in Community-based Sport Programs Among Latino Adolescents." Lechuga, assistant professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development, received the $10,000 Proof of Concept Grant for his grant titled "Moving towards Diversity: How University Administrators are Working to Increase Minority Student Access and Success in American Public Universities." Quiroz and Dixon also received the Proof of Concept Grant for their grant titled "Supporting Home Learning of School Readiness Skills: Project EASE in Spanish for Spanish-speaking Preschoolers."
As a fellow each recipient receives the title of MALRC fellow for three years and training from the Vice President of Research Office of Proposal Development to enhance their grant writing skills.
