Zellner Honored by Former First Lady For Literacy Efforts8/20/07 By Jenna Kujawski
"Literacy has always been a passion of mine and is the key to so many doors for children and their parents," Zellner said. "I wanted to find a way to celebrate the work of our school principals while promoting literacy with the students they serve." As director of the Principals' Center at Texas A&M, Zellner created the "Children's Perceptions of the School Leader" Art Contest, which gives school children in the Brazos Valley the opportunity to show off their artistic skills by using art to demonstrate how they view their school principal. In addition, students are asked to include a one-paragraph description of either their principal or the school they attend. "The art and classroom teachers did an outstanding job of having their students write and illustrate their school leaders," Zellner added. Zellner was given her recognition award at the BBLC spring grants recognition luncheon. |
